HAZELNUT PROMOTION GROUP PARTICIPATED TO FI-EUROPE 2011
Hazelnut Promotion Group participated to the trade fair called FI-Europe which is an important platform for food ingredients.
This was the first time for Hazelnut Promotion Group to participate to this trade fair which was held November 29-December 01, 2011 at Paris, France. And both industry representatives and visitors interested with the stand of Hazelnut Promotion Group so much.
Approximately, 23.000 visitors, 1.200 companies of more than 50 countries participated to FI-Europe which is organized bi yearly and which gets people of food ingredients’ R&D, purchasing, Production and marketing managers.
During the trade fair roasted hazelnut and salted roasted inshell hazelnut served, promotion brochure and and promotion film distributed, all hazelnut forms exhibited and promotion film broadcasted.
Also, the samples which can be used as an ingredients in their products was given to the company representatives experts. And the inquiries of these experts were determined by meetings where the questions of them was replied regarding hazelnut.
FTG, PARTICIPATED TO TURKEY-WORLD FOREIGN TRADE BRIDGE PROGRAM
Hazelnut Promotion Group, participated to the fair with a info stand held simultaneously with the biletarel discussion on October 26-27, 2011 in framework of Turkey-World Foreign Trade Bridge Program held on October 24-30, 2011 in Istanbul Congress Centre in coordination with Ministry of Economics.
The fair was opened by Mr. Zafer Çaðlayan, Minister of Ecomony, Chairman of Turkish Exporters Assembly and Chairman of TUSKON. On the other hand, roasted hazelnuts in 20 gr. packages and salted roasted inshell hazelnut was served, promotion brochure and DVD was distributed to visitors admiringly. And also, the information regarding hazelnut was shared by meetings with company representatives.
HAZELNUT PROMOTION GROUP WAS IN ANUGA FOR SECOND TIME
ANUGA, which is the biggest food and beverage exhibition of the world, were held in Cologne/Germany between October 08-12 2011. Hazelnut Promotion Group has participated in Anuga for second time and its eye-catching booth design attracted a great interest from both industry representatives and visitors again.
6.596 companies from 100 different countries and 155.000 visitors from 180 different countries participated ANUGA 2011 which is organized biennially and given particular importance by global food sector.
Sample hazelnuts from various types which it might be used in products and promotion materials were distributed to industry representatives and their hazelnut inquiries were taken in the face to face meetings.

FTG PARTICIPATED IN WORLD FOOD MOSCOW FOR 5TH TIME
Hazelnut Promotion Group (FTG) participated in 20th World Food Moscow between September 13-16 for 5th time.
FTG’s booth was located in the center of pavillion F with other companies of chocolate, sweets, bakery and patisserie industries which use hazelnuts in their products and it has attracted a great interest from visitors.
The quality of Turkish hazelnut were emphasized in order to increase its awareness among visitors during the conversations regarding hazelnut which is called as “funduk” in Russia,
Sample hazelnuts from various types which it might be used in products were distributed to industry representatives and there have been face to face meetings with industry representatives and their inquiries about hazelnut were taken.
Roasted hazelnuts in 20 gr. packages and salted roasted inshell hazelnuts attracted a great interest from visitors and promotion video in Russian language about Turkish hazelnut’s journey from farm to end product were watched with great interest.
THE CO-OPERATION OF MENG NIU & FTG CONTINUES
The joint campaign of “Olleci Ice Cream” continues with Meng Niu company which signed a memorandum of strategic co-operation with FTG during the visit of President of the Republic of Turkey Abdullah Gül to People’s Republic of China (PRC) and launched a new Turkish Hazelnut containing product to Chinese market.
With their %40,7 market share, Meng Niu is consired as one of the biggest dairy products and ice cream companies in PRC. The joint promotion activities continued in Bejing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou and Hefei cities of PRC between the dates April 30-May 08, 2011 regarding the “Olleci Ice Cream” with Turkish Hazelnut which produced with the R&D support of FTG and conducted joint promotion activities in 32 different cities of the country after it has been launched first in January 2010.
In the framework of the promotion activities, FTG supplied free Turkish Hazelnut and 670.000 package of 15 gram Turkish Hazelnuts has been distributed to people who bought “Olleci Ice Cream” in 408 point of sales at special stands in the major centers of the cities mentioned above.
A SEMINAR WAS ORGANIZED IN KYOTO/JAPAN FOR CONFECTIONARY SECTOR
Hazelnut Promotion Group (FTG) continues its efforts for promoting Turkish hazelnut in Japan. Another seminer was organized in Kyoto with Federation of Japan Confectionery Associations (FJCA). FTG has cooperated with FJCA for long years and organized several seminars since 2004.
More than 50 people has participacted to the seminer and Yuji Ajiki, which is a so experienced chef about hazelnut in confectionary production and also worked with FTG in past activities, was the main instructor of the session.
During the 7 hour long seminer, owner of the famous patisserie “Sweets Garden” in Yokohoma and also winner of a lot of ýnternational competitions Chef Akiji emphasized healh benefits and taste of hazelnut and presented 5 different hazelnut desserts to the participants and recipe books, brochures and hazelnut samples were distributed.
THE JOINT ADVERTISEMENT WITH LINDT PUBLISHED IN MC MAGAZINE
In framework of advertising and promotion activities of Hazelnut Promotion Group in USA, FTG realized an other common advertisement activity with world famous trademarks which use Turkish Hazelnut, Swiss chocolate company Lindt.
The advertisement with thema of “Hazelnuts Love Chocolate” which indicates that Turkish Hazelnuts are very popular in chocolate and confectionery industry because of its taste and premier quality published in popular industry magazine called “Manufacturing Confectioner” (MC) in June issue.
A SEMÝNER WAS ORGANIZED IN TIANJIN/CHINA FOR CHOCOLATE AND BAKERY SECTORS
As a part of the promotion and advertisement activities carried out in People’s Republic of China in aim to increase awareness and consumption of Turkish hazelnut, Hazelnut Promotion Group organized a seminer on May 28, 2011 for chocolate and bakery sectors in Tianjin, which is the 5th most crowded city of the country and contains a lot of companies in related sectors.
Participants were informed about nutritional value of hazelnut, different hazelnut types, usages in the sector and health effects of hazelnuts during the Tianjin seminer which is one of the informative activities of Hazelnut Promotion Group oriented to food professionals in China.
On the others hand, various hazelnut forms were displayed during the seminer and 5 different desserts with hazelnut were presented to the participants.
HAZELNUT PROMOTION GROUP OPENED A STAND IN INVITATION FOR DIPLOMATIC REPRESENTATIVES
The second dinner-party held for consuller missions and consuler agent who have duties in Ýstanbul on December 6, 2010, in Ritz Carlton Hotel as a follow up the party organized by Turkish Exporters Assembly on April 1, 2010 to throw together the Ambassadors and our exporters.
Beside other promotion groups of our country, also Hazelnut Promotion Group participated with a stand to the party which is an opportunity for the other export products of our country.
On the other hand, it is observed that the salted roasted, salted kernel and roasted hazelnuts which served on the dining table in ball room and lounge where the party held was consumed by the invitees admiringly.
A NEW HAZELNUT CONTAINING PRODUCT FROM MORINAGA
FTG’s promotion and advertising activities in Japan continues to provide positive results.
Morinaga company has launched a new hazelnut contaning product to the Japanese market. Moraniga, founded in 1899, is considered as Japan’s pioneer of western confectionaries.
Morinaga has a long history more than 100 years and they are well-known with to produce first domestically chocolate of Japan. Now, they launhed a hazelnut containing version of Pino ice cream which it is very popular among Japanese consumers.
Morinaga has also used Turkish Hazelnut previously in their wafer product “Weider Protein Bar”

Hazelnut Promotion Group added Godiva to the famous trademarks which it publishes common ads in framework of advertisement and promotion activities in U.S.A.
As it known, Godiva Chocolatier is an important trademark which has more than 450 butique chocolate shops from New York to Paris and from Paris to New York.
The “Manufacturing Confectioner” magazine which is an important source for confectionery manufacturers to know regarding the developments in industry.. FTG PARTICIPATED TO SIAL PARIS 2010
Hazelnut Promotion Group participated to 24th “Salon International de l’Alimentation” - SIAL 2010 Internatýonal Trade Fair for third time which held between 17-21 October, 2010 and were organized every two years in Paris since 1964.
Sial Paris is known as one of the most important food fairs and a global marketplace which brings food ýndustry together. 5.600 food and drinks companies from 105 different countries took space at the exhibition and more than 150.000 visitors visited the exhibition in this year. When it is compared with previous years, participation was very high.
Processers, distributors, importers, exporters, retailers, wholesalers and food suppliers from all over the world came together during the fair and products were displayed from chocolate, sweet and biscuit, frozen products, diet products, ingredients, fruit & vegetables, meat & meat products, seafood, organic, drinks, poultry, preserves, dairy industries.
FTG participated to Sial Paris 2010 with a 45m2 stand in Hall 5A which is most crowded one. Major companies of chocolate, sweets, bakery and patisserie industries which use hazelnuts in their products were also in this hall.
During the fair, the FTG stand attracted a great interest from both industry representatives and visitors. Sample hazelnuts from various types which it might be used in products were distributed to industry representatives and roasted hazelnuts in 20 gr. packages, salted roasted inshell hazelnuts, brochures, promotion DVDs, World Hazelnut Tastes boks and Turkish Hazelnut Information books were distributed to the visitors.

FTG WAS IN WORLD FOOD MOSCOW 2010 TRADE FAIR.
Hazelnut Promotion Group participated to 19th World Food Moscow Trade Fair with a 36 m2 info stand, which held on September 14-17, 2010 in Moscow.
The fair which FTG participate regularly for the last 4 years, become a very populer trade fair in recent years where international and domestic food&drink manufacturers, retail food market, catering industry, chefs, wholesalers, distributors and importers promote their new products and services.
Chocolate, biscuit, confectionary and bakery, snacks, fruits and vegetables, meat and chicken, dairy and dairy products, fish and water products, olive oil ve sausages, alcohol and non-alcohol drinks, tea and coffee, frozen and conserved products industries from 55 countries approximately 1.100 companies participated to this trade fair.
In the fair which was held in the biggest trade fair centre, Expocentre visitors interested with the roasted hazelnuts in 20 gr. packages and salted roasted inshell hazelnuts which were distributed, and it is contributed on awareness of hazelnuts where hazelnut is already called “Funduk” in Russian Federation.
Also, there have been face to face meetings wtih industry representatives and taken their inquiries about hazelnut, on the other hand, brochures, promotion DVDs, World Hazelnut Tastes books and Turkish Hazelnut Information books were distributed to the visitors.
MEIJI SEIKA COMPANY PRESENTED A NEW PRODUCT WITH HAZELNUT TO JAPANESE CONSUMERS
A new product was added to products with hazelnut in the Japanese market in which Hazelnut Promotion Group has held promotion activities after 2000.
Meiji Seika Company, one of the biggest and long-established confectionery producers and manufacturing a variety of products from confectioneries to cookies, introduces a new product with hazelnut paste called “Chip! Chop” to the market.
Remembering Meiji Seika with nearly 100 years of history and being one of the greatest and most effective confecitonery firms in Japan, it is considered that carrying on hazelnut usage in its products is a good development in terms of increasing hazelnut demand in this country.
“VOL. 11 OF HAZELNUT BULLETIN CALLED NEWSLETTER WAS ISSUED WITH THE THEMA OF “DISCOVERING TURKISH HAZELNUT”
In order to make Japanese consumers conscious of hazelnut and give information about hazelnut’s use and its health benefits, Newsletter vol. 11, which is printed and distributed two issues in a year, distributed 80,000 copies through Café Sweets of June 5, 2010, which is closely followed by product development officers in food manufacturer companies and Japanese chefs.
The issue was distributed to 1,620 manufacturers which are in touch in Japan, and then sent on media representatives.
On the issue, it was covered the information about hazelnut’s health benefits introduced by a Japanese dietian Naoko Makino, who is specialist about a healtier life through nutrition, presentation of a product with Turkish hazelnut which was launched by the company Narisup Cosmetics Co., Ltd and the recipes with hazelnut called “Financier Chocolat Noisette ve Shadow” which were developed by a popular chef in confectionary products called Izumi.

SHOEI FOODS CORPORATION, ONE OF THE MAJOR FOODS IMPORTERS, INVITED FTG TO THEIR EXHIBITION
Upon receiving a request from Shoei Foods Corporation (Shoei), one of the major foods and hazelnuts importers, Hazelnut Promotion Group (FTG) participated in their exhibition with a booth in Tokyo in June 10-11 2010.
During the exhibiton, questions on hazelnuts of visitors from leading Japanese confectionery and foods makers including Meiji, Lotte, Lotteria, KFC ve Cold Stone Cremary were answered, and small packages of hazelnuts, brochures and newsletters were distributed to and the information about hazelnut was presented to visitors.
Then, Famous Chef Izumi and Chef Asada from bread and confectionery categories, with whom we worked in Newsletter vol. 11 closely followed by the industry, arranged a demonstration used hazelnuts and hazelnuts paste. The demonstration attracted visitors and coloured the exhibiton.
It is expected that the exhibiton wolud have positive effect to FTG’s activities in Japan, among makers, wholesalers, retailers, patissier in order to spread awareness of Turkish hazelnut among Shoei customers like, patissier, wholesalers, retailers and makers through building close relationships.

WORKSHOP FOR PATISSIER WITH FJCA IN SENDAI
Hazelnut Promotion Group (FTG) conducted workshop with Federation of Japan Confectionery Associations (FJCA) to nearly 80 participants from patissiers in confectionery school (YMCA) in Sendai, important city in Japan where meaning is “woodland”, on June 10, 2010.
It was aimed to publicize Turkish hazelnut usage among patissiers with this workshop and Chef Tsuchiya demonstrated seven items using Turkish hazelnut, explaining how to use hazelnut in patissiers.
Bringing out advantage of hazelnut by Chef, the workshop aroused warm interest from participants and helped participants to deepen their knowledge of hazelnut.
It is considered that it would have positive effect to publicize usage of hazelnut in the future by giving an oppurtunity to participants form YMCA Confectionery School through the activities like this increasing knowledge of hazelnut.
FTG OPENED A STAND IN 29TH INC CONGRESS
Just as every year, Hazelnut Promotion Group participated to the 29th INC (International Nut and Dried Fruit Council) Congress held in Beijing, capital city of People’s of Repbulic of China in May 21-23, 2010. In this year’s Congress which 867 attendees participated, a record was beated with the most attendees numbers between the INC Congresess held since 1980.
Because among the targeted markets FTG gives a special importance to People’s of Republic of China where conducts acitvities since 2001 and provided stable increase in our export, FTG participated to this year’s Congress with special stand construction. In part of this stand the new products with hazelnut which launched by Chinese manufacturers as a result of activities conducted in People’s of Republic of China.
At May 21, 2010, FTG delegation which participated to INC Congress also visited the “Meng Niu” company’s facilities which is one of the biggest dairy and dairy products manufacturer in People’s of Repbulic of China.
During this visit, in the meeting with Mr. Rong Zhang, Ass. CEO of this company, he stated that they are appreciated with sales of the products with hazelnut and working for a launch of a new ice cream with Hazelnut in a different format for the next season.
As it is known, the company Meng Nui launched its ice cream which contains whole hazelnut and chocolate coated on March 2010.

As a part of advertising and promotion activities of Hazelnut Promotion Group (FTG) in USA and as a result of joint working with Kraft Foods, first in USA and second in the world on trademarked foods and beverages, advertisement with thema of “Milka made with Alpine Milk and Hazelnuts” prepared together with Milka Chocolate, famous chocolate trademark of Kraft Foods, was published in populer industry magazine called “Manufacturing Confectioner” (MC) in March, April and May issues.
FTG AT FOOD INGREDIENTS CHINA (FIC) FAÝR
Just as previous years, Hazelnut Promotion Group (FTG) participated to Food Ingredients China (FIC) fair held between 23-25 March 2010 in Shangai which is the biggest food ingredients fair of Asia.
More than 70.000 visitors attended to fair and more than 1.000 Chinese and foreign exhibitors participated. It was showned that HPG booth attracted a great interest during the fair. On the other hand, contact informations of visitiors which had demand for hazelnuts forwarded to our members.
FTG PARTICIPATED TO “DESSERT SWEETS AND DRINK FESTIVAL”
Hazelnut Promotion Group (FTG), participated to “Dessert, Sweets & Drink Festival” which held on April 7-9, 2010 in Tokyo and which is the biggest trade fair of Japan.
In this trade fair participated for the targets informing participants more about quality of Turkish Hazelnuts, varieties of usage area and benefits to health beside strengthening the relationships with participants of industry side and product development departments of leader food manufacturer companies and increasing the awareness of Turkish Hazelnut, the stand of FTG located at the entrance of fair venue.
In this framework it is provided to attract the attention of visitors more and hazelnut samples and promotion materials distributed to visitors, products with Hazelnut exhibited at the stand. On the other hand, a show concerning the usage of hazelnut in bakery industry held in where people interested very much.
In the fair which attended by 63.478 visited, the stand of FTG was interested by attendees and was visited by 3.500 visitors.
SEMINAR FOR BAKERY AND SNACK IN SHANGAI
Hazelnut Promotion Group (FTG) conducted a seminar for bakery and snack sectors in Shangai, which is most crowded city in China and contains most known food companies, as a part of advertising and promotion activities of Hazelnut Promotion Group (FTG) in China in order to increase awareness of Turkish hazelnut and its consumption. The seminar organized before IFC Exhibition and thus attracted more target audiences to participate.
During the seminar, Threwalkers PR Co., conducting advertising and promotion activities in behalf of FTG in China, presented Turkish hazelnut trade and gave participants detailed information about what type of hazelnuts use in which areas and how to use hazelnuts, hazelnut cultivation, processes in the factory, nutritional values, human health benefits
THE PROJECT ON HAZELNUT GREN SKUNK STRUGGLE
On recent increase in the number of Hazelnut Green Skunk (Palomena Prasina L.), damaging to hazelnut taste and quality, in order to remove economic loses resulted from damage of subject pest on hazelnut, Hazlenut Promotion Group (FTG) signed a protocol with Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs General Directorate of Protection and Control, and has brought in a three-year project to struggle with Hazelnut Green Skunk. Financial support of Project will be met by FTG.
It is estimated that the damage of of this pest on hazelnut production of Turkey is about 7%. It is planned to decrease economic loses in minimum level through works which will be conducted to determine effective struggle ways after data resulting from the project.
MENG NIU COMPANY LAUNCHED ITS SECOND TURKISH HAZELNUT CONTAINING ICE CREAM TO THE CHINESE MARKET
Meng Niu company which signed a memorandum of strategic co-operation with FTG during President of the Republic of Turkey Adbdullah Gül’s visit to People’s Republic of China (PRC), launch a new Turkish Hazelnut containing product to Chinese market.
With their 3,12 Billion annual sales and %40,7 market share, Meng Niu is consired as one of the biggest dairy products and ice cream companies in PRC. The company emphasized both Turkish hazelnut and chocolate in the advertisements of new ice cream product “Suibian” with “two delicious in one ice cream” tag line.
Tv commercials will be broadcasted in 10 channels including three of CCTV’s (public broadcasting oganization of PRC) and mostly targeted to young people. Also, FTG logo is positioned on the package of product and unique cultivation conditions and rich nutrients are indicated too.
Meng Niu has developed a new Hazelnut containing product and positioned FTG logo on their packages soon after signed a memorandum with FTG. It showed to us that Meng Niu give particular importance to Turkish Hazelnut and it is considered like one of the distinctive succes of FTG in PRC for many years. Also these develoments give more belief to FTG regarding future plans.

CHINESE DELEGATION IS IN TURKEY
Another Turkey trip that Hazelnut Promotion Group organizes regularly for Chinese delegations was organized like previous years between 8-12 March 2010 in framework of the advertising and promotion activities of Hazelnut Promotion Group in People’s Repuplic of China (PRC). The delegation consist of 7 companies’s top-level managers of manufacturers, importers, distributors and exporters which are leading companies in PRC and conducts avtivities in chocolate, confectionary and snack industries. The delegation took detailed information about Turkish Hazelnut Industry and hazelnut processing activities.
The delegation thanked to FTG for providing opportunity for verification of integrated facilities, different forms of hazelnut and production areas by organizing this visit and they indicate that they were effected very much with Turkish hazelnut industry which makes production with a developed and modern technology.
The delegation stated that the information given by FTG will provide them to develop new products with hazelnut suitable with Chinese palatal delight, they plan to increase the quantities of using hazelnut, they support the activities which hazelnut conducts in PRC, they estimate that the Turkish hazelnut exports to PRC will increase 10% minimum and they believe that Turkish hazelnut exports will reached to the target 5.000 tons which has been already exceeded 1.000 tons.
COLLABORATION WITH ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR COOKING SCHOOLS OF JAPAN
FTG conducted a collaboration for New year’s eve and Valentine’s day once more with ABC Cooking Studio which is one of the most popular cooking schools with their 107 branch offices and 230.000 students in all over Japan. Hazelnut recipe’s card which is prepared by ABC were distributed to students in every school of ABC and other participants. FTG had conducted its first collaboration with ABC in March,2009.

Both during in school visits and conversations with school’s authorities, it is observed that unique and spectacular design of recipes card attracted a great interest in comparison to the other ones and it was proven with %73 of participators voted for “ ý want to try one of these recipes” in the web page survey.
Since students showed a great interest to above mentioned collaboration, ABC authorities stated that recipes with hazelnuts will be used in their future lessons in the school. Hence, beside creating opportunity to taste hazelnut recipes for Japanese consumers, new Hazelnut recipes were included to ABC’s, one of the major cooking schools of Japan, database.
FTG PARTICIPATED TO ISM 2010 FAIR
FTG participated with a stand to 40th ISM fair which is considered as the most important confectionary fair and held between January 31-February 3 for this year.
1.503 companies from 66 different countries participated the fair and displayed their chocolate, biscuit, snack and confectionary products. There were a lot of visitors from wide range of industry representatives from confectionary companies, wholesalers, retailers, supermarkets, bakery processers and healthy food companies.
FTG’s stand attracted particular interest from companies which is especially already using hazelnut in their products. Sample hazelnuts from various types which it might be used in products and promotion mateirals were distributed to industry representatives and their hazelnut inquiries were taken in order to forward our members. Also, roasted hazelnuts in 20 gr. packages were distributed to the visitors.
Promotion film, display cases from glass, cubes with printed hazelnut pictures and chocolate poster which covering all the behind wall raised the awareness of FTG stand.

CHINESE AND INDIAN DELEGATIONS WERE WELCOMED
Within the framework of the promotion and advertisement activities carried out in China by Turkish Hazelnut Promotion Group, in order to be informed about our hazelnut sector, a delegation composed of Chinese importers, manufacturers, distributors and exporters paid a visit to Turkey between 27-30th November, 2006. In this regard, by visiting the hazelnut processing facilities in Istanbul, Trabzon and Giresun, the potential of Turkish hazelnut industry was demonstrated and bilateral business meetings were conducted between our exporters and Chinese companies.
A delegation of Indian importers, manufacturers and media representatives paid a visit to Turkey between 19-23rd November, 2006 within the context of the promotion and advertisement activities carried out in India by Turkish Hazelnut Promotion Group. The hazelnut processing facilities in Istanbul, Trabzon and Giresun were visited by the delegation. On the other hand, a shooting was conducted to be broadcasted on “Khana Khazana” TV program in two parts, which has a high viewer profile, in which Turkish hazelnut used recipes were developed by the most popular Indian chef Sanjeev Kapoor, who was among the delegation members as well.
TURKISH HAZELNUT HAS BEEN CERTIFIED BY JAPAN
After the Japanese government put into effect the new agricultural residue limits for the agricultural products as of May 29th, 2006; in order to show that Turkish hazelnut conforms the new limits, Turkish Hazelnut Promotion Group had conducted pesticide analysis on hazelnut in terms of 83 items through “Mycotoxin Research Association” certified by the Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare”. The result of the analyses shows that Turkish hazelnut is in conformity with the new limits with regard to all 83 pesticides.
